Software Engineer
AMPLY Power is a clean energy technology company going after an emerging $100B market opportunity. AMPLY deploys and operates EV chargers the way data centers operate server blades – lots of them at a time, with high efficiency, low cost, and 99.99% uptime. We serve public sector and commercial businesses with fleet vehicles – electric buses, trucks, and passenger fleets. The ideal Software Engineer must be passionate about building approachable, innovative, and enjoy working with complex technologies in our small but growing engineering team. The Software Engineer will not only be capable of troubleshooting network problems, but also building and maintaining a complex public multi-cloud environment EV fleet charging as a service software. *This is a full-time paid position based at our HQ office in Mountain View, CA. While this posting is listed for SF Bay Area, CA, we are open to hiring throughout the US.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex problem solving on production and development environments by diagnosing and fixing issues
- Document issues found by the customer support team by opening JIRAs and investigating them to root cause
- Being available for on-call shifts for production support as necessary
- Available for being on-site to customer environments for EV charger or vehicle telematic system testing with the backend software
- Development and support for large scale Node.JS applications in real-time, event driven, distributed/transactional cloud/IoT platforms
- Testing / deployment in a continuous integration and continuous development environment where you drive test driven development and enforce the 'do not break the build rule' right from the beginning
- Document processes, system components and APIs to build and enhance an internal knowledgebase
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience, plus at least 4-5 years of experience in real-world software development
- Live and breathe full stack web development using open-source development and tools, can discuss the pros and cons of various web application toolkits
- Write quality code: source control, testing, and clear documentation are all musts
- Strong proficiency in Javascript
- Experience with NodeJs, HTML, React, CSS, SQL and other technologies
- Strong background in software engineering - can build high-quality, scalable applications with robust tests and documentation
- Experience with backend development including NodeJs and SQL
- You love freedom and dislike being micromanaged. Given context, you’re capable of self-direction

AMPLY is redefining the EV charging market for private and public fleets, including autonomous driving fleets, transit bus agencies, municipal, and private fleets. We are building the next level of charging as a service, taking complete ownership and control of the charging infrastructure, the scheduling of the vehicles, the cloud platform, and the utility meter – in order to provide the highest availability and resilience in the market. In this way, we will accelerate the adoption of electric-powered fleets by optimizing the delivery of power and making refueling seamless and efficient. In a high-powered application like vehicle fast charging, the difference between controlled, optimally balanced vs unrestrained EV charging could be 3x in cost from your local utility. Even more importantly, EV fleets, in particular when part of critical and close to real-time business processes (for example in autonomous fleets) need to be scheduled for charging in specific time intervals. By taking control of the utility meter, optimizing EV charge rate and vehicle process flow, AMPLY provides the lowest cost of electric fueling possible in a given depot location or in-route stops. Our approach is to offer charging as a service, which is unique in the industry. We offer our customers a per mile driven usage rate. AMPLY provides the bulk of the upfront capital expenditures associated with the charging platform.
