Staff Data Scientist

We are looking for candidates with experience developing data models, data flows, and AWS applications to enhance the way our platform considers multiple dynamic inputs to drive optimized results. A successful candidate is proficient at analyzing large datasets over multiple domains, skilled at using various machine learning and statistical techniques to create solutions realizing clear business values, and proficient at developing optimization models. You will help lead the data science team and work on commercial-facing development projects. Last but not the least, you should share the same passion for eliminating carbon emissions through innovative technologies.
*This is a full-time paid position based at our HQ office in Mountain View, CA. While this posting is listed for SF Bay Area, CA, we are open to hiring throughout the US.
Responsibilities
- Dive into underlying data, apply relevant Data Mining techniques, Machine Learning algorithms, and/or optimization models to improve the product decision making
- Assist in the implementation of the applicable Machine Learning or statistics-based algorithm for forecasting and optimization
- Develop, enhance, and validate optimization models to be used in order to autonomously operate a growing portfolio of sites
- Leverage understanding of optimization, modeling, and control to support energy management capabilities
- Experience in applying Linear Programming, Mixed Integer Programming, Convex Optimization, and solution algorithms
- Problem-framing, problem-solving, and technical breakdown of operational requirements to development deliverables
- Translate quantitative data into visual reports for non-technical audiences and provide a clear analysis of the data Identify areas where improvements in data analytics can bring more value to clients

- Provide guidance in the development of company best practices around data analytics, dashboarding, and reporting
- Prepare reports for leadership that communicate trends, patterns, and forecasts to inform business decisions
- Work hand in hand with software engineers, architects, and DevOps to deploy your models into production Mentor, grow, and foster high-performance teams of in-house data scientists and ML experts
Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in STEM field
- 6+ years’ experience developing machine learning, optimization, or complex data models
- Strong Python and SQL skills (experience using dbt and BigQuery is a plus)
- High proficiency in EE or power conversion theory
- Experience with optimization modeling packages such as PYOMO, CVXPY, or solver APIs (e.g. Gurobi, CPLEX, Xpress)
- You are open and willing to help others learn and look to learn from others, as well
- Ability to use and develop optimization models to use with common commercial solvers (e.g., CPLEX or Gurobi)
- You make thoughtful recommendations that consider impact, urgency, and long-term implications and know when to say no
- An ability to lead and drive projects forward with strong communication and stakeholder management skills Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, evolving, and high growth environment
Additional Awesomeness
- M.S. Degree or Ph.D. in STEM field
- 4+ years of experience in energy data management or related experience in renewables

About AMPLY Power
AMPLY is redefining the EV charging market for private and public fleets, including autonomous driving fleets, transit bus agencies, municipal, and private fleets. We are building the next level of charging as a service, taking complete ownership and control of the charging infrastructure, the scheduling of the vehicles, the cloud platform, and the utility meter – in order to provide the highest availability and resilience in the market. In this way, we will accelerate the adoption of electric-powered fleets by optimizing the delivery of power and making refueling seamless and efficient. In a high-powered application like vehicle fast charging, the difference between controlled, optimally balanced vs unrestrained EV charging could be 3x in cost from your local utility. Even more importantly, EV fleets, in particular when part of critical and close to real-time business processes (for example in autonomous fleets) need to be scheduled for charging in specific time intervals. By taking control of the utility meter, optimizing EV charge rate and vehicle process flow, AMPLY provides the lowest cost of electric fueling possible in a given depot location or in-route stops. Our approach is to offer charging as a service, which is unique in the industry. We offer our customers a per mile driven usage rate. AMPLY provides the bulk of the upfront capital expenditures associated with the charging platform.
